The new temple of the First Assembly of God branch established in 1931 in Yendi was dedicated to the glory of God on Saturday 29th June 2024 by the General Superintendent, Rev Stephen Wengam. 12 Executive Presbytery members assisted him, including the General Secretary, Rev.Dr. Ernest Birikorang and the General Treasurer, Rev.Dr. Simon Abu Baba. Present at the ceremony were elders of the Yaa Naa and other sub-chiefs including the M.P for Yendi, Hon. Farouk Mahama. In attendance, were National Directors for the Women’s Ministry, Sunday School, Foreign Missions, former Regional Superintendents, and many pastors from various parts of Ghana.
The representative of the Yaa Naa reading the goodwill message of the revered King remarked that they had never witnessed an event like that in the history of Yendi. In his sermon titled, Send The Light Because There Are Still More Lands To Possessed (Joshua 13:1-7), the General Superintendent called on the church to pursue aggressive church planting and evangelism because there are still unreached people groups and communities in Ghana.
The 400-seater auditorium was financially sponsored by the General Superintendent, Rev. Stephen, and his wife, Lady Mrs Monica. This was in response to a request made to them by the Senior Pastor and church board. This included the refurbishment of two graves of former/early missionaries from the USA (Beulah and Guy Hickok-1931-1942) and the former chapel of the First Assembly of God church now used as the Children’s Chapel.
The main auditorium is christened Evangelist Margaret Shirer Temple (named after the first Missionary who established the first branch of Assemblies of God, Ghana. The refurbished former temple now the children’s chapel is also christened the Rev. Elijah Namyela Panka Temple. It is named after the first indigenous General Superintendent.
