Retirement and thanksgiving service has been held for Rev & Mrs. Paul Oteng Asamoah to bring to an end 32 years in active pastoral ministry. The occasion was held on Sunday 9th February 2020 at Liberty Assemblies of God, Abuakwa-Kumasi, in the Ashanti West region. Until his retirement, Rev. Paul Oteng Asamoah was the Senior Pastor of Liberty Assemblies of God, Abuakwa-Kumasi. Below is the profile of Rev. Oteng Asamoah highlighting his life and contributions to AGGhana.
PROFILE OF REV. PAUL OTENG ASAMOAH

Rev. Paul Oteng Asamoah was born at Atasemanso in the Ashanti Region on 6th October 1953 to Opanin Kofi Nnum and Madam Abena Dufie both from Atasemanso, both of blessed memories. Rev. Paul Oteng Asamoah had his primary and middle School Education at Atasemanso R/C School in the Ashanti Region from 1960 to 1970. To him, life was not treating him fairly because things were tough so he left his hometown for the village to assist his father in cocoa farming. From there he returned to his hometown and started shoeshine business for a year in order to raise money to fend for himself and the entire family. Life then became more difficult than he could bear so he entered into carpentry as an apprentice in flash door making and became the breadwinner for his family through his carpentry business. It was through this job that the Lord called him into ministry. Without hesitation, he quickly responded to the call.
At the age of 6 years, Rev. Paul Oteng Asamoah started attending Roman Catholic and became a Catechist for about five (5) years at his hometown Atasemanso. In 1976, he joined Scripture Union, which greatly influenced his Christian life. The leadership of the Scripture Union at the time included Bro. George, Bro, Adu Mensah (now Rev. Or, Jones Adu Mensah), and Evang. Akwasi Amoako of blessed memory. As a zealous ambassador of Christ, Rev Oteng Asamoah started preaching as a dawn broadcaster and a mobile Preacher in commercial vehicles and at market places. This incurred the anger of the members of the Catholic Church who felt that as a Catholic he could not attend Scripture Union meetings at the same time.
In that same year of 1976, he joined the Light House Assembly of God Ghana, Akwatia Line under the ministry of Rev. Nicholas Opuni. As an active member at the Light House A/G for three years, Rev. Oteng Asamaoh together with some other brethren started the Evangelical A/G Church at Santasi. He moved to Evangelical A/G Church, where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. As a Deacon at the Evangelical A/G, he contributed tremendously to the planting of the Light House A/G at Trede in the Ashanti Region under the ministry of the then late Evangelist Akwasi Amoako in 1985. In that same year, he was posted to the Light House A/G, Trede, as the Interim Pastor.
The Lord used the then General Superintendent Rev. Namyela Panka and his Assistant, Rev. Charles Oko Dankwa, who regularly attended Evangelical A/G, Santasi, to get him admission to the then Southern Ghana Bible School at Saltpond from 1985 to 1987. During his stay at the Bible School, Rev. J. E. Korankye, the then Head Pastor of Evangelical A/G took care of all his educational expenses whilst at the Bible School. Upon graduation from Bible School in 1987, he was installed as the substitute Pastor of the Light House A/G Church, Trede where he served for twelve years (from 1987 to 1999). During his service at the Light House A/G, Trede, he planted churches at Pakyi No. 2, Mpatasia, Ampabame, Nkoransa and a preaching point at Paa. He then bought an acre plot of land for the Light House A/G, Trede and started the church building and the parsonage but unfortunately, he could not complete both before he was transferred to El-Shaddai A/G, Mamponteng in 1998.
During his eleven years of stay at El Shaddai A/G Church, Mamponteng, God used him to achieve numerical growth. The church had already acquired land under Rev. Richard Nkrumah. In spite of financial difficulties, he managed to start and complete the big storey building in which the ground floor was completed for the church to move in and worship there and pillars were raised for the upstairs but were not roofed. At Mamponteng, Rev. Oteng Asamoah planted churches at Adwumakaase-kese and Fawoade as well as reviving the Bampenase church.
In early 2000, he upgraded himself in the School of Languages, Kumasi, where he studied for proficiency in the English Language. In April 2008, Rev Oteng Asamoah was transferred to Liberty A/G Church, Abuakwa to continue his selfless and great work in the Kingdom of God. He has pastored the Liberty A/G for twelve years until his retirement from active ministry. Under his leadership, the Liberty A/G, Abuakwa has witnessed significant growth. Notable infrastructures initiated during his ministry include:
– Acquiring and fencing 7 plots of land for the church
– Construction of New Church Auditorium (capacity of one thousand members)
– Construction of children’s church and a two-unit classroom block for the community
– Establishment of credit union
– Purchase of Generator set
– Purchase of 38 seater bus for the church
– Construction of church auditorium for Jehovah Nissi, Abuakwa-Dadease New Site
Rev. Oteng Asamoah has held several positions during his service as a minister; notable ones among them include Evangelism Director for Ashanti Region, District Pastor- Kwabre Sekyere District and District Treasurer- Mamponteng District. Ministers who were trained by Rev. Oteng Asamoah include:

Rev. Paul Oteng Asamoah is happily married to Mrs. Juliana Oteng Asamoah. They tied the knot in 1981 and the good Lord has blessed them with six children (one deceased) leaving three boys and two girls – Mrs. Gloria Thompson, Mrs. Bernice Brefo, Student Pastor Godwin Owusu, Minister Samuel Amankwah and Ebenezer Oteng. To him, his family has been the backbone for his success in the ministry. Therefore, each had a role to play in the church. God bless them all.
