PROFILE OF REV. NELSON RIIS OCLOO

Rev. Nelson Riis Ocloo was born on 18th January 1956 at Koforidua, to the late Mr. Joseph Amedorme Ocloo of Anloga in the Volta Region and the late Madam Mercy Awushie Fiagbe of Mafi Adakpo, also in the Volta Region. He attended classes One and Two at Jumapo Presbyterian Primary School and continued from class Three to Middle Form Four at Anloga Evangelical Presbyterian Primary and Middle School. In 1977-1981, he was admitted at Emit Electronic Institute at Kaneshie, where he sat for City and Guilds of London Institute, Part 2 Finals, comprising Engineering Science and Circuit, Electrical Power. After graduation from Emit Electronic Institute, he decided to do Practical Attachment Training, and by the grace of God, he had the opportunity to do practicals with Sampson Electrical Engineering Services as Electrical Technician Trainer at Dansoman Asoredaneho, in front of Odorkor Police Barracks, in rewinding of motors, generator transformers, alternators, and many more.

He could not continue the rewinding training due to financial constraints. Again, in 1982, Rev. Ocloo had an appointment at Universal Secondary Technical at Akweteyman near Abeka Lapaz as Electrical Installation and Practice Instructor. In 1990, Rev. Ocloo joined Ghana Electrical Contractors Association and registered his company. In 1992, He sat for the Ghana Electrical Contractors, Internal License Examination which was conducted then by the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG). After he wrote the Internal License, he again sat for the External License Examination, also conducted by the Electricity Corporation of Ghana (ECG). He attended ECG Training School at Tema 3 consecutive times together with the Ghana Electrical Contractors. He was awarded a certificate in Testing Installation and Safety Measures-1993; Domestic and Small Commercial Installation and Distribution -1994; and Line Construction and Cable Handling, Cable Jointing and Termination Techniques -1996.

In 1997, All Afra Electric and Panel Ltd (Joint Ventures) both companies in Accra sublet Rev Ocloo’s company Nerisco Electrical Engineering Services, contract at South Odorkor near Eddy Williams Printing Press. Again, in the same year September 1997, the above joint ventures company sublet him another contract at Agge, Shaibu, 205 Karikari Brobbey around Mamprobi last stop. He also worked with Kingdom Transport Service (KTS) as their Maintenance Technician at Blue Bird House (BBH) at Odonkor Sakaman and their main yard off Kpone Barrier.

Rev Ocloo once stayed around Dansoman Asoredaneho. One day his land Lord, who was a watchman by profession and had painting as his hobby, invited him to accompany them to North Kaneshie. By then, his landlord was working for one Legal Practitioner, Dr. Seth Twum, it was there he saw the signboard of North Kaneshie Assemblies of God and he said, “This is the Church I will attend in the future”. So, the first Sunday day he wrapped a newsprint around his bible and told his family he was going to see someone in town. The subsequent Sundays he stopped wrapping the newsprint around his Bible after attending a new convert class. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior later. Whiles at North Kaneshie Assemblies of God, he served as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Men’s Ministry Organizer, and Technical Director for Missions. In 1995, the Southern Ghana Bible Institute, now Assemblies of God Theological Seminary sent a request to all the Regions within the Southern Sector to send skilled men or artisans to come and work voluntarily on the new auditorium, the Kitchen, and the Dining Hall. Rev Ocloo was among the volunteers who went to the aid of the school. They were 2 volunteers from North Kaneshie including a missionary mason, Mr. Malachi Ankoma Koranteng. Whiles Rev. Ocloo was in the Bible School, he was the head of the Electrical Department. In his final year, he led his colleague Electricians to fix 20 ceiling fans at the Auditorium, and through him, Mr. Samuel Agyei Boateng, the Executive Director of Anointed Electrical Services donated a brand-new Generator to the School.

Rev. Ocloo enrolled for Christian Workers Training in Southern Ghana Bible College in 2003 and also enrolled for Diploma of Theology at the Southern Ghana Bible Institute (now AGTS) from 2005 to 2007. Rev. Ocloo served as Associate Pastor at North Kaneshie Assemblies of God from 2007-2009. Between 2009 and 2015, Rev. Ocloo became the head Pastor of Banner of Love at Otinibi. Rev Nelson Riis Ocloo was transferred from Banner of Love, Otinibi to Agomeda in December 2015. Rev. Ocloo moved finally to Agomeda in the company of his wife Mrs. Alice Ocloo on the eve of 10th January 2016. Rev. Ocloo carried out four major aims for the Church, but could not succeed due to lack of personnel and financial support. Rev. Ocloo managed to cope with difficult situations to the end. He encouraged members to be regular, punctual at all Church meetings and programmers. Rev. Ocloo has a great concern for the sick and bereaved. He visited the injured and the sick in their homes and at the hospitals. During the lockdown era of the COVID-19, he would call members only to find out how they were faring.

Rev. Ocloo pastoral work was coupled with studies at West Africa Advanced School of Theology (WAAST), Lome in Togo. This he did assiduously. He graduated with a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th.) from West Africa Advanced School of Theology in 2018.

Due to his commitment and general concern for missionary work, he was elected as the chairman for the Agomeda-Ayikuma Zonal Chairman for the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) when the Council launched her 50th anniversary. This task he performed selflessly, organizing a week-long programme including communal labour at both Ayikuma and Agomeda.
