A section of Ministers at the occasion

Assemblies of God Ghana in 2014 reviewed and implemented a revised policy to retire Ministers who turn 65. This policy seeks to give retired Ministers a befitting retirement package after serving the organization and this has been an improvement on the old policy.

PROFILE OF REV. DANIEL B. PUPLAMPU

PREAMBLE: Psalm 127:1 “Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders build in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain”.

Rev. Daniel Buertey Puplampu was born to Mr. Aaron Buer Puplampu and Madam Mercy Kutiameh Olaga (all of blessed memory) on September 3, 1953. The Puplampu family originally hails from Ada Okor. Rev. Puplampu has his background as a Presbyterian. He started his primary education at Hwakpo L/A Primary and continued to the Presbyterian Middle Boys boarding at Big Ada between 1958 and 1965 and came out with Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC).

Rev. Puplampu’s first employment was a pupil teacher at Lolonya at a primary school. While at Lolonya, he started Sunday school with the children and others also joined. Gradually adults also joined the class. This to him was a sign of initial call as a Gospel worker. It wasn’t long when there was a publication in the Daily Graphic for youths to be trained as aircraft technicians in the Ghana Air Force Technical Institute to work on their aircraft as an air man.  So, he resigned and applied and went through all the necessary stages with distinction. After excelling in all the stages, he and others were enlisted into the Air Force and he was sent to the No. 4 Jet Bombers Squadron, which was a Presidential defense Squadron.

While at the Air Force, some of the Air Men who belong to Assemblies of God organized themselves and formed the Assemblies of God Burma Camp Branch called Soldiers of the Cross and Nation led by one Warrant Officer (W.O) Kwakye. Whilst still with the Presbyterian Church, a friend invited him to an evening crusade which was been organized by Assemblies of God (A/G), which he attended together with his wife. The message that night was “Rescue the perishing” and the hymn rescue the perishing was sang by the youth choir formed by one Air Force Officer called Pastor Yamoah from Takoradi who came to minister during the revival. Rev. Puplampu’s heart was really touched but to be able to relocate and join A/G Church became an issue. Upon praying over the situation, he had a dream one night which he saw a big man standing who instructed him not to cross the big gutter between the Air Force quarters and the Arrakan barracks.

Rev. Puplampu was still indecisive until a further revelation of his place of worship and later the canteen where Assemblies of God people were worshipping. What he saw in the revelation at the canteen became the deciding factor for which he joined Assemblies of God. Upon this, he went with his wife one night to visit them. After the first visit, one Sunday morning they decided to go to Assemblies of God and start worshipping there and were given a student copy of the Sunday school manual. Our visit continued and on the fourth Sunday, he was asked to teach the class due to the absence of the substantive teacher and my contributions in the class. After this, he became a full Sunday school teacher of Assemblies of God.

Rev. Puplampu was baptized into Christ by the Missionary Rev. J.S Kesler, Chairman of the West Africa missionary field fellowship with other converts. One Easter eve, he together with three other brothers decided to pray and seek the face of God to know the plan and purpose of God for them. The third night, he saw an elderly man well dressed with a register in his hand which he started calling names of which his name was mentioned and he spoke to him to resign after twelve (12) years of service in the Air Force and go to Saltpond. Upon discussing this dream with a Missionary by name Rev. Kenneth Krake, who advised him contrary to the dream he had and promised him 50% scholarship to study with International Correspondent Institute (ICI).

Due to Rev. Puplampu’s in-depth knowledge of the Bible, he welcomed the news and resigned from the Air Force and further relocated to Nungua. He was led by a sister to join Faith Assemblies of God. At Faith A/G, the grace of God empowered him to serve in many capacities as Secretary, Sunday School Superintendent and Church board member. There was a sudden relocation of the then Senior Pastor (Rev. Anthony Kumordjie) of Faith A/G to Kumasi which automatically paved way for him to lead the church together with the Presbytery and other deacons and Pastors (Pastor Andrews, Pastor Bahin and Pastor Aggrey), who came to serve for some period.

Several calls came to him to get enrolled in Bible School by the then Regional Presbyter, Rev. S. B. Asore (of blessed memory) but it all fell on deaf ears. The grace of God multiplied and together with the other pastors, they were able to plant Victory Assemblies of God, Teshie. The name Victory was given by Rev. Puplampu, then a serving Deacon. Not long, Rev. E. K. Adri (of blessed memory) and the wife were transferred to Faith A/G as the substantive Pastor and Rev. Puplampu served under the late E. K. Adri for so many years and by the grace of God, they were able to plant three other churches when Evangelist Adu Dadzi was the Missions Director for Greater Accra. During this time, Rev. Puplampu also requested to be assign one of the new churches especially the Estate Zongo Church but all his requests were declined. He continued to press on but Rev. Adri replied “who will do the work you have been doing if you should leave”? He served in Nungua in the year 1977 to 1995.

After so many years in Nungua, Rev. Mrs Florence Adri, whom he recognize as his spiritual mother due to their relation suggested to him to go to her hometown, Asutsuare and start a church there. Upon further consultation with the authorities from the Greater Accra Regional office and the then Ashaiman District under the leadership of Rev. Divine Addae who accepted him wholeheartedly, he agreed and went to Asutsuare in the year 1995. The then Ashaiman District organized a three (3) days open air crusade to start the process of the church planting. The speaker was his brother, Pastor Gideon Puplampu of the Presbyterian Church in Ashaiman. This served as a strong foundation for the genesis of the first Osudoku A/G church, Narrow Gate Assemblies of God, Asutsuare.

After a year and half in Asutsuare, he was admitted at Southern Bible College, Saltpond, from 1997 and successfully completed in the year 1999 with Diploma in Theology as the grace of God permitted. He appreciates the Men Ministry of Faith A/G, Nungua for fully funding his stay in the Bible College and also Miss. Comfort Nti (the late Rev. Nti’s sister).

In the year 2000, the second church, Victory Assemblies of God at Osuwem was birthed with the help of Labone-Cantoment Christian Fellowship from Accra. In 2003, the grace of God enabled us to plant Grace Assemblies of God at Volivo-Lanor with the help of an evangelistic group from Exhibition Assemblies of God, Dansoman, Led by Rev. George Annan, late Rev. Nana Quansah and Doctors Christian Fellowship from 37 military hospital and Doctors from Chicago.

The challenges he faced in ministry ranged from separation from his wife during the first four years in ministry, fatal motor accidents which nearly left him disable or even dead, being ejected from places of residence, resistance of traditional authorities to church planting in some communities and many others which the kingdom of God suffers. But thanks be to the LORD Almighty for quenching all the fury fires, shutting mouth of angry lions for the sake of His Kingdom.

In 2017, Rev. Dr. Godwin Ahlidja with his NGO (Meaningful Life Ministries) assisted tremendously with a cinema evangelistic crusade and climaxed it with a great feast and free medical screening to help establish another church at Dedukope (Gospel Light Assembly), the fourth church. Later, Rev. Nelson Awintia and Ashaiman East district supported and fully funded payment for four plots of land and erected a beautiful place of worship. By the grace of God, Rev. Daniel B. Puplampu was able to help all the four churches under him to acquire plots of land. He has raised temporal structures for Victory A/G and Grace A/G and, permanent structure for Narrow Gate. A Five bedroom apartment to house the residence minister and guest speakers is under construction currently at Lenten Level at Asutsuare. Just behind the five bedrooms mission apartment is a self-contained house fully funded by Rev. D. B. Puplampu which he is leaving behind as a property for the church.

One of his greatest impacts in Assemblies of God is his suggestion for Deacons and Deaconesses to be trained and effectively used in our churches. This suggestion resulted in Lay workers course to train Christian workers for the kingdom of God. This has come a long way to help our organization grow to this stage. Also, he and two others (Bro. Tweneboa Kodua and Bro. Sarkodie) were commissioned by Rev. Asore to write a concept on Pastors Appreciation which is now held in all Assemblies of God churches.

The Almighty God blessed Rev. Puplampu and his wife with four children before he entered into full time ministry, three females and a male child. The grace of God was sufficient for him to raise these children without much difficulty. The only male child among them has been to tertiary education and to glory of God; he is now a Tent Minister after three years study tour in Europe, combining his personal business with God’s work. The three ladies are all self -employed.
