The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana who also doubles as the Vice Chairman of the Africa Assemblies of God Alliance and the Lead Pastor of Cedar Mountain Assemblies of God International, Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam has tasked ministers of the gospel to live holy life and be examples of emulation for their congregation and the society. He made this clarion call when he met Pastors, Ministers’ wives, widows, and retired ministers of the Assemblies of God, in the Eastern Region B at Asamankese during a day Prayer and Fasting Retreat dubbed APOSTOLIC VISITATION on Thursday, August 10, 2023.
In a word of exhortation on the Cooperate Theme of the church for the Year 2023, “Holiness for Revival” 1 Peter 1:15,16; the astute minister admonished Pastors and people of God to be holy and spend more time in prayers as they lead the flock. He encouraged participants, who were mainly pastors and their wives on the need to be actively involved during worship service than to be spending time in the office. He further warned Pastors who engage themselves in nefarious activities to desist from that since the Executive Presbytery of the church will not shield any Minister who is found culpable. He also challenged the Regional Executive Committee not to cover any Pastor who goes against the doctrines of the church and the Holy Bible.
Rev. Dr. Wengam admonished pastors to love one another, and not to harbour bitterness and envy since it is against the principles of the Bible. He also challenged pastors to be humbled and give reverence to God, since He will judge all including Ministers of the Gospel. The man of God stressed that, for Pastors to be successful in ministry, they must have time to study more of God`s word, be very prayerful, and faithful, and also rely on the Holy Spirit. He reiterated that any minister who does not spend more hours in prayers to seek the face of God will always have what he calls a “dry pulpit” and will never have the flow of the power of God.
Rev. Wengam stated that Ministers of the Gospel must be distinct in whatever they do because they are role models to the rest of the world. The General Superintendent led the gathering to pray for about three hours.
The wife of the General Superintendent Lady Mrs. Monica Wengam also took the opportunity to admonish active ministers to take care of widows and retired ministers of the church and not to neglect them. She later donated clothes to all retired ministers’ wives, widows, and all ministers’ wives who were present at the occasion. She gave an undisclosed amount of money to the Widows present.
The Regional Superintendent, Rev. Obed A. Asiedu explained the rationale behind the program. He encouraged the pastors and their wives to always respond to such programs which brings them together for socialization and spiritual nourishment.
