Retirement service was held in honour of Rev. John Kobena Sam and Mrs. Mary Sam at Perfect Love A/G in Kasoa in the Central ‘A’ region on May 5, 2019. Until his retirement, Rev. John K. Sam was the senior Pastor of Liberty Prayer House AG in Kasoa.
The occasion brought together several dignitaries including the Regional Superintendent of Central ‘A’, Rev. Christian Essandoh, Rev. Peter Bandim, the National Pensions Administrator and Rev. Fredrick Anyan Addison, District Pastor of Awutu Central. Other personalities who attended the ceremony included several senior Ministers in the region such as Rev.Dr. Charles Arko Nunoo, Rev. Samuel Paa Kissi, Rev. Nana Kwadwo Boateng Addo, Rev. Benjamin K. Frimpong, family members, members of the various A/G churches in the region and friends of the retiree.
Goodwill messages were read to highlight the achievements and contributions of Rev. Sam to the Assemblies of God fraternity in Ghana, the region, the district and the local churches. The sermon for the occasion was delivered by Rev. Christian Essandoh and the retirement declaration was done by Rev. Peter Bandim. Presentations were also made to the retiree by the General Council, Regional Council, Awutu Central District, the Pension Board, Liberty Prayer House and other people.
In his speech, Rev. Sam expressed his deepest and profound gratitude and appreciation to all the current Regional officers, his successor Rev. Frederick Anyan-Addison, Rev. Bright Arhin and all Pastors in the Awutu Central District, churches as well as other ministers who helped him in diverse ways in his ministry. He also took the opportunity to thank the church board and the entire Liberty Prayer House members. Rev. Sam expressed his appreciation to his lovely wife Mrs. Mary Sam who stood behind him through thick and thin, his children and siblings for their immense support.

PROFILE OF REV. JOHN K. SAM
Rev. John K, Sam was born in Agona Kwanyako in the Central Region of Ghana on the 29th of May, 1952 to Mr. John Kwesi Sam and Madam Martha Anderson, a.k.a Yaa Tebuah all of blessed memory. Rev. John K. Sam completed his elementary education in 1968 at the Agona Kwanyako Methodist School and obtained Middle School Leaving Certificate (MSLC).
Few days later, he joined his parents at Sefwi Dwinase in the Western Region and worked with Glisksten West African Limited, a timber firm now Suhuma Company. After some time, he enrolled as a student at the Adabie commercial school in Kumasi and later proceeded to Royal Academy of Accountancy in Accra from 1974 – 1976, but unfortunately did not complete.
He became a member of the Berean Assembly of God in August 1979 and was baptized on 30th September, 1979 by Rev. Christopher Felix Tenkorang at Agona Asafo who was our Pastor for Kwanyako and Asafo. He went with Rev. Tenkorang to Breman Asikuma in August 1980 to plant Shiloh A/G at Asikuma and continued to assist him till he sensed the call of God upon his life which was confirmed by his Pastor Rev. C.F. Tenkorang.
He later enrolled as a student at the Southern Ghana Bible Institute now Assemblies of God Theological Seminary (AGTS) at Kormantse in 1982 and graduated on the 16th of November 1984 with Diploma in Theology. He took care of the Hope Assembly of God, Kormantse while He was a student at the Bible School in 1982 till His graduation in November, 1984 and subsequently became the substantive pastor till late 1989. He was transferred to pastor the Aboso and Dahorn Churches for about eight (8) months because of his strong desire and determination to plant a church at Agona Nyakrom. Upon consultation and approval by his Regional Superintendent, Rev. C.F. Tenkorang who is his mentor and father in-law, he went to Agona Nyakrom on the 28th of January, 1990 and started the Nyakrom Restoration Center A/G on the 4th of February, 1990.
Whiles in Nyakrom, he planted the Mensakrom Church and again in collaboration with Mr, Adjei planted the Agona Kwaman A/G. Again he initiated and started the planting of Agona Bobikuma A/G and the first student pastor assigned to take care of the church was Rev. Samuel Amoa Mensah. Furthermore, he was assigned an additional responsibility whiles at Nyakrom to take care of Breman Asikuma A/G when Rev. Kaitoo was transferred to Nyarnedom. He was a caretaker pastor for Agona Kwanyako church when Rev. Kaitoo was transferred from Kwanyako to Bawjiase. Again, in May 2006, he was transferred to Apam to take care of the Apam, Nsawarn and Gomoa Assin Churches by his Former Regional Superintendent Rev. Charles Arko Nunoo.
Rev. Sam and wife left to Kasoa on 11th September, 2009 under Rev. Emmanuel Wiredu Nkrumah, the immediate past Regional Superintendent and planted Liberty Prayer House A/G on the 13th September, 2009, which he pastored till his retirement on May 5th 2019.
Rev. Sam held several positions in his ministerial work. Notable ones among the lot are as follows;
- 1987 – 1990 Sectional Secretary (Now Regional Secretary)
- 1991 – 1995 Sectional Treasurer (Now Regional Treasurer)
- 1990 – 1992 Agona Area Organizer (Now District Pastor)
- 1992 – 1998 Agona District Pastor
- 2004 – 2006 Winneba District Secretary
- 2013 – 2018 Awutu Central District Pastor
- 2013 – 2018 Regional Executive Member
- 2014 – 2019 Regional Election Committee Secretary
During his tenure of office as the District Pastor for the newly created Awutu Central District from 2013 – 2018, Fourteen (14) new churches were planted by the various churches to the glory of God. These churches include Christ Love Assembly, Amazing Love Assembly, Agape Love Assembly, Divine Love Assembly, Pure word, Divine Grace, Bethel Assembly, Adorn Estate Assembly, Royals of Hope, Grace Palace Assembly, Lamptey Assembly, Pentecostal Assembly, Royals of Love Assembly and God’s Love Assembly. The district supported some of the churches with cash and in kind.
Furthermore, as the District Pastor, he recommended Eighteen (18) people from the various churches to the Regional Executive committee for approval and subsequently enrolled at our Theological Seminary at Kormantse after successfully passing their entrance examinations.
By the grace of God the people who sat under the ministry of Rev. Sam sometime ago are now ministers of the gospel as well as Christian workers. They are about Twenty-one with notable ones including Rev. Benjamin K. Frimpong, Rev. Francis Arhin Quamsah, Rev. Benjamin Crentsil, Rev. James Benedict Oppong, Rev. Richard Awotwe Antwi, Rev. Lewis Addae Baah, Rev. Emmanuel Addae, Rev. Henry Owusu, etc.
Rev. Sam is married to Mrs. Mary Sam and they are blessed with six children namely; Mrs. Faustina Nkoa, Mrs. Philomena Kumordzie, Mr. Enoch Sam, Mrs. Eunice Ansah, Mrs. Esther Arthur and Mr. Eugene Yaw Sam with 22 grandchildren.
