PROFILE OF REV. DR. ISAAC SAMUEL JACKSON-KUOFIE
Rev. Dr. Isaac Samuel Ebo Jackson-Kuofie was born at Saltpond in the Central Region on 13th May, 1952 to Mr. James Kwesi Ghartey-Kuofie and Madam Dinah Acquah (both of blessed memory).
He started his elementary education at Rev. Cobbah Yalley Middle School at Effiakuma, Takoradi and proceeded to Fijai Secondary School in Sekondi. On completion in 1974, he furthered his education in accountancy at SNAPS School of Accountancy at Asylum Down in Accra.
After school, he started his work life in Tema as a teacher at Shields Experimental School. He taught for three years and was later employed at China House Restaurant as the Supervisor in charge of general affairs and purchasing. While working at China House, he did some courses with State Hotels and Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI). From there, he also had a stint with the Ghana Shippers Authority as a Data Processor. Due to his vast experience in hotel and restaurant management, he was called to manage a Chinese Restaurant (Chop Sticks Chinese Restaurant) in Tema.
Being adventurous, he joined the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority to manage the Credit Union Section. Throughout this period he was a member of Revival Assemblies of God Church, Community 5; Tema. By then, Rev. Dr. Jackson-Kuofie had become very active in the work of God. His love for God reached its peak and as a result he yielded to the Call of God which ushered him into priesthood.
The Lord called Rev. Dr. Isaac Samuel Jackson-Kuofie into the pastoral ministry in 1973 at a time he was gainfully employed at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority. It was not until 1990 that he enrolled in the Southern Ghana Bible Institute (now Assemblies of God Theological Seminary) and graduated with a Diploma in Theology in 1992. In April, 1993, he started the Grace Pentecostal Assemblies of God in Community 3, Tema. Rev. Dr. Isaac Samuel Jackson-Kuofie with the assistance of some brethren such as Brother Joseph Todd (of blessed memory) and Brother Sagoe started the Grace Pentecostal Assembly of God Church in Community 3. The first Sunday service was held in a wooden structure with 10 people. With continuous prayers and various forms of witnessing, the Lord touched the hearts of many to join the church. Eventually the wooden structure could not contain the numbers, therefore canopies were mounted on the playground for Sunday adult services and the children were moved to the wooden structure.
Later, he went back to the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology. His desire to be fully equipped for ministry, compelled him to participate in workshops and seminars in the United States of America, Canada, South Korea and Ghana. Based on his meritorious contributions to both ministry and community, the American Bible University in Florida conferred on him an honorary Doctorate Degree (PhD in Divinity).
As time went on, the church began experiencing some challenges. For instance, the church was forced to close early to allow the next church to have their service, especially during departmental day celebration and other special occasions. Secondly, services were disrupted by heavy downpours during the rainy season accompanied by strong winds. Also because our church services were held in the open, residents began to complain, and the church authorities were dragged to Tema Municipal Authority a few times for disturbing the community.
Faced with these challenges, the leadership of the church began to look for a suitable place where permanent facility could be put up for church services. As the members were increasing, prayers were intensified in this direction. Eventually, God answered our prayers when the Tema Development Corporation allocated plots of lands to Presbyterian, Methodist and Assembly of God Church at SSNIT Flats, Site “B” Community 3.
God’s servant, Rev. Dr. Isaac Samuel Jackson-Kuofie was resilient in the acquisition of land which the late Rev. Dr. David Nabegmado did the sod cutting and late Rev. William Dontoh (former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana) dedicated the church auditorium. Through his tenacity and a “Yes We Can” attitude, God’s servant mobilized resources and started building the auditorium. His thirst for the work of God has been unquenchable in spite of age.
He has by the grace of God completed the foundation for a multi-purpose auditorium with a 3000 seating capacity, as well as, a fence wall to the glory of God! Indeed, Rev. Dr. Jackson-Kuofie is the Nehemiah of our time and Grace Pentecostal is indeed, blessed to have been pastored by this great man of God.
Apart from the daunting responsibilities that he handled as the lead Pastor of the church, Rev. Dr. Isaac Samuel Jackson-Kuofie also served in several capacities as Tema District Treasurer and also, Acting District Pastor for one (1) year. He further served as the Men’s Ministry Greater Accra Regional Director, National Secretary of the Men’s Ministry, as well as a Planning Committee member for the retirement of the late Rev. Dr. Simon B. Asore (former General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana).
In terms of achievements, Rev. Dr. Jackson-Kuofie was instrumental in instituting the Men’s Ministry Breakfast and Dinner in Assemblies of God. Through his missionary work, two churches were birthed: Mission Sanctuary Assemblies of God Church, Dawhenya, Tema District; and Hope of Glory Assemblies of God Church, Kpodokope in the Ada District.
Rev. Dr. Jackson-Kuofie has also mentored many leaders and pastors who are scattered all over the world. Prominent among them are Rev. Clement Gyasi-Yeboah and Rev. Dr. Ebo Abeka-Daniels. By the grace of God, Rev. Dr. Jackson-Kuofie has supported the youth through skills training and capacity building workshops and seminars.
In obedience to biblical principles, he joined himself to the love of his life, Mrs. Mercy Vera Jackson-Kuofie, who has been a true partner and supportive of her husband’s ministry. She is currently the Greater Accra Regional Manager of the Education Unit of the Assemblies of God. They are blessed with three children; James, Muriel, Jessica and two grandchildren.
As he has retired from ministry, we can only wish this great Man of God every biblical blessing and to say ayekoo for a good work done!
