The General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church, Rev. Professor Paul Yaw Frimpong-Manso, says the survival of every church largely depends on generational leadership and has called for a paradigm shift from the old ways of doings things.
The 85th Anniversary celebration was on the theme “85 Years of Spirit Filled Ministry: Achievements, Challenges and the Way Forward”. He said that some church leaders are so soaked and corrupt in their positions in the church that they deprive young and gifted members of the church the opportunity to use their God given talents.
Speaking on the topic “I Build My Church with Faith” at the 85th Anniversary celebrations of the Tamale Central Assemblies of God Church yesterday in Tamale, Professor Frimpong-Manso stressed the critical need to change the narrative of the church for its survival. He advised the leadership of the church to give chance to the young and train them so that they would be in a position to hold the mantle when they are old or no more. He urged the leadership to serve the church in truth, sincerity and humility as well as advising them against running the church as their personal property.
The Deputy Regional Minister, Solomon Boar, entreated the church to engage in social and economic activities that are geared towards benefiting members, pushing its doctrines and agendas forward. He was worried that after 85 years of existence, the Tamale Central Assemblies of God Church was yet to establish a basic school in the region.
The Head Pastor of the church, Rev. Dr. David Akonsi Wumbei said 85 years in the life of the church is no mean achievement. He said the church is not limited to meeting only the spiritual needs of its members, but other social and physical needs as well.
Professor Frimpong Manso unveiled the anniversary plague with inscriptions of names of past and present leaders of the church. He paid glowing tribute to the leaders whose hard work and commitment have brought the church this far.
