The Regional Superintendent of Eastern Region ‘B’ of the Assemblies of God, Ghana Rev David Frimpong Boateng, on Sunday 11th November, 2017, officiated a retirement service of Rev Percy Shiako and family of Medie Blessed Hope Assemblies of God who served meritoriously for 20 years in active ministry.
The ceremony brought great personalities like Eastern Region ‘A’ Superintendent, Rev Stephen Ohipeni Narh, the Administrator of Assemblies of God ministers’ Pension Scheme, Rev Peter Bandim, Nsawam District Pastor, Rev David Owusu Ansah, the Nsawam District Treasurer, Rev Isaac Amo, Acting Women Ministry Director, Rev Mrs. Florence Baidu, District Pastors from the Region and many other Pastors and their wives across the country.
Rev Jose Percy Shiako was born on 10th November, 1947 at Ketedorm near Begoro in the Eastern Region. He started his basic education at Ketedorm Local Authority Primary in 1956. He continued at Ehiamankyene R/C Primary from class four to six. In 1962, he gained admission to the Krobo-Agogo (L.A.R.C) Middle School, where he obtained his Middle School Leaving Certificate in August, 1966.
Rev Percy Shiako was employed as a Pupil Teacher at Krobo Agogo Anglican Primary School in October, 1966. He then proceeded to Obo Teacher Training College (now Presbyterian College of Education, Abetifi) in May 1969 and completed in June 1973 as a certificate ‘A’ Teacher. He was first posted to Anglican Primary School in 1973 and transferred to Nuaso Anglican Primary in !975 where he taught for three years. In 1978, Rev Shiako was transferred to Odumasi to start the then Anglican Middle School. Two years later he was transferred to Ogome Anglican Primary School as a teacher and Catechist in charge of the St Mary’s Anglican Church.
In 1983, Rev Shiako gained admission at the Anglican Theological Education Centre at Koforidua to pursue a three year Diploma course and ordained into the Anglican Priesthood in June, 1986 at St John’s Anglican Church, Nsawam. He served as a Parish Priest with the Anglican Church for six years (1986-1992). Rev Percy Shiako had a heavy conviction to quit the Anglican Church so on Sunday, 12th June 1992, after church service he informed the congregation and left the church.
Rev Percy Shiako met and married his dear wife Rebecca Amosaa Inkoom on 26th December, 1987 at Nsawam Anglican Church. They have been blessed with four strong sons.
In July 1992, Rev Shiako joined the Asesewa Assemblies of God Church and was baptized into the church. In 1993 he undertook a two week Lay workers course. Rev Shiako was called into full time ministry of the Assemblies of God, Ghana in 1997 after he undertook a three year Diploma in Theology at the then Southern Ghana Bible Institute.
In his sermon titled “The Conclusion” with the scripture references from Numbers 8:11, 12, 15, 19; the Regional Superintendent, Rev David Frimpong Boateng stated that there is a conclusion in everything on this earth and there would not be any meaningful conclusion without activity. He praised Rev Shiako for working hard for the church. The reiterated that “Rev Shiako would be remembered of his dint of hard work and good services rendered to both the Region and the Assemblies of God as a whole and wished him well as he brings his active ministerial work to conclusion. He told the jubilant congregation that pastors are gift or offering to the church and should therefore be treated with all respect.
Rev David Owusu Ansah, on behalf of the Nsawam District presented a citation in recognition of his dedicated service in the Lord’s vineyard.
Rev Peter Bandim, who represented the Head office, presented a donation on behalf of the General Superintendent. Two Deacons from the local church presented a 4-wheel SVU vehicle to Rev Shiako as a gift.
Rev Shiako served the following positions in his 20 year ministry, namely, Regional Prisons Director, Suhum and Nsawam Districts Secretary.
